Custom Shutters & Pocket Doors – The Porches Inn, Berkshire Mountains
Project Overview
Shutterworks was commissioned to fabricate custom interior shutters and pocket doors for The Porches Inn, a boutique hotel located in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. This project required a refined balance of durability, craftsmanship, and timeless design to complement the historic character of the property.
From initial measurement to final delivery, this project highlighted Shutterworks’ ability to execute large-scale, detail-driven custom millwork for hospitality environments.

Project Challenge
Hospitality projects demand consistency, precision, and materials that perform over time while maintaining a high-end appearance. In this case, the scope included a substantial number of shutters along with oversized pocket doors, all requiring a uniform finish and exacting tolerances.
Additionally, while Shutterworks was responsible for fabrication only, every piece needed to arrive installation-ready and meet the expectations of both the property owners and installation team.

What We Did
- - Fabricated 40 custom interior shutters
- - Built 4 large pocket doors featuring flat panel detailing on the lower portion of each door
- - Used Straight Grain Douglas Fir throughout the project for its stability, clean grain pattern, and premium appearance
- - Applied a clear satin finish to enhance the natural beauty of the wood while maintaining a soft, elegant sheen
- - Completed precise measuring on site in February, with fabrication and delivery completed by June
Each piece was handcrafted to ensure consistency across all units, maintaining tight quality control from material selection through finishing.
Result
The completed shutters and pocket doors delivered a warm, natural aesthetic that aligns seamlessly with the character of The Porches Inn. The clear satin finish allows the Douglas Fir’s straight grain to remain the focal point, providing a timeless look suited to both modern and historic interiors.
While installation was handled separately, the final product reflects Shutterworks’ commitment to craftsmanship, material integrity, and attention to detail on commercial-scale projects.
